What did we do on New Years Eve?

We don't usually go out on New Years Eve, it's a romantic time for us which we choose to spend together. I tend to cook up a storm, try out a couple of different recipes and we share a good bottle of wine and generally chill out and enjoy each others' company. Surpirising how little time you get to do that when you've been married for almost 15 years..

I've never been a huge fan of cooking - it is something I do rather than something I enjoy but since I found my Cooking ebook and audio my attitude has changed a little and I've begun to experiment more. The book doesn't just cover recipes, it gives lots of tips for cooking up a storm on a budget and time saving tips that help you to feed your family healthily when you are working full time..

You can find out more about what this book has to offer here Check it out and then come back here and drop me a comment to let me know what you think!

Holiday Fun! What are you doing New Years Eve?

What's your idea of a fun night out on New Years Eve? Many people still seem to be rather taken with the Karaoke, showing off their musical talent at the local bar and enjoying the accolades...

If you are having a huge shin dig at home this New Years Eve, you can still take advantage of karaoke style fun, simply by using your computer!

These days there are programs taht will let you download the various songs that you want in your collection in the order that you prefer. Some of these computer karaoke programs will even turn your computer into a karaoke player (without all of the extra costs involved in actually buying your own karaoke player).

It is even possible to download freeware computer karaoke programs that provide instructions on how to install their product on to your computer hardware. Imagine being able to set up your own home karaoke form minimal cost! What fun that could create. (Alwys remember to scan for any viruses before running programmes that you have downloaded from the net!)Most freeware sources are pretty reliable but you can never be too careful these days.

Once you have your new computer karaoke programs installed you can do a trial run to check that everything works. Move over Destiny's Child! If you're feeling a little more adventurous, you can also buy computer karaoke programs that allow you to create magnificent karaoke CDs to give as gifts to your loved ones and friends.

Imagine their surprise (and delight!!) when you present them with a collection of your favourite songs performed by yours truly as a karaoke compliation...

Whatever you decide to do - I hope that you have fun with it and that 2007 proves to be your best year yet!

Cooking Styles & Techniques

There are many different cooking styles and techniques, in turn offering a wide variety of cooking experiences for people world-wide. Some of the more popular styles and techniques that are outlined in our Cooking Experience ebook along with various recipe suggestions, include:

Baking – This method covers making bread and cakes. The process involves dry heat inside an oven. In some cultures heated stones work, too.

Broiling – This technique has a variety of uses, basically it involves cooking food ib boiling water in a pan on a hob or burner. Some recipes call for food not to be added until after the liquid boils; others before. Variations here include steaming – like placing a colander of vegetables over boiling water to steam them, or using a special pan to achieve this, and also using a pressure cooker with meat and or vegetables inside.

Crock Pot cooking – People who enjoy mixing ingredients, then leaving the whole lot together to slow cook love crock pot cooking. This is often the preferred method for two-career families on the go with little time to cook. You can make really tasty meals that are prepared before leaving for work and hen slow cook in time for you to return home.

Flame / Fire / Kiln – These methods involve using fire or a kiln to cook food; for example, in Indian cookery, a kiln is popular for breads and meat dishes such as shish kebab, flaming desserts or flambe style foods are where the food is flamed before eating, and pizza cooked via a wood fire is very popular these days.

Frying – This popular method unfortunately isn’t always the healthiest. Top fast foods today include cooking via variations of this method called deep frying; French fries, fish sandwiches, fruit pies, onion rings; and sautéing – frying in butter. However, there are healthy foods which come from stir frying and which are incredibly tasty, think of thai style stir fry vegetables and chicken.

Lite – For the particularly health-conscious, the most popular way to cook lite meals is to opt for substitutions, replacing high fat with lower fat content. One of the substituates invloves replacing applesauce for oil in brownie mixes.

Once A Month – Some organised families who want to save money from eating out and also provide healthy meals for their families, despite time problems, choose to cook once a month. Basically, they cook huge batches of a variety of meals once a month and then divide them up to store them in the freezer. This is convenience food at its best, you know exactly what has gone into this but it simply needs to be removed from the freezer, heated and served..

Microwave cooking – This is a very popular method especially with younger cooks, microwaves provide quick solutions for heating up leftovers and cooking frozen foods as well as mess free porridge, scrambled eggs and fish dishes.

Barbecuing / Grilling – The choice for outdoor fun, dads often prefer (or get roped into) this cooking experience.

Rotisserie – This style of cooking is great for chicken and turkey where the meat is slow cooked on a spit in its own juices, very healthy and tasty.

Drying – Fruits and jerky-style meats are favorites here although it is an art that many people no longer have time for, preferring to go to the store and pick up a pack or a jar when the mood takes them.

Toaster Oven – This method is perfect for smaller families and single people. The units take up less space, use less heat and often require less cooking time than conventional ovens.

These are just the tip of the cooking styles and techniques that are available nowadays. Stay tuned for more! And remember, if you’re in a hurry for the holidays or other special occasions – or even just for fun, grab your copy of:

Cooking - Pleasure or Necessity?

Cooking is generally a necessity for me I have to admit. Although I have become pretty good at it over the years, nothing fancy, just a series of trusty, easy to knock out meals that we like.

Following a recipe used to be a real trial for me - something to be avoided whenever possible.
However over the years I have collected and altered several basics which stand me in good stead and allow me to rustle up a decent meal even when I can't be bothered to go shopping!

The great news about having your own ebook site though is that ocasionally you come across a book that you wonder how you ever managed to live without and that's how I've found my Cooking Experience ebook.. If you want to know more about cooking up a storm on a budget or how to whip up a really tasty meal without getting too hot under the collar so that you can't enjoy it yourself, you might be interested in following the link below for more info..

Moving on from teenage teething probs for a while...

Maybe I should have added this post at the beginning but I figured its time to let you know why I decided to make a blog related to our ebooks sales site..

Basically we are kind of pleased with the products that we add to the site. Its growing slowly because we are keen to offer quality stuff for you to peruse & hopefully buy sometimes! But we're pretty interactive kind of people and we figured that it would be easier to have people add any comments on a blog than ask them to email us. (It also gives me a chance to waffle a bit & sometimes I enjoy that).

So if you have any comments that you would like to add please feel free - we welcome them.

As time goes on I'll gradually be kind of reviewing each of the ebooks that we are selling, adding a bit here to compliment the sales page and try to give you a better idea of what the book contains - without giving away the whole thing naturally.

Hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I enjoy adding to it..

Teenage Angst?

What causes teenage angst and how can we alleviate it?

Several things happen to us as we reach our teens. I guess we can all remember, to a certain extent, how it felt to suddenly start to question who we are, where why we think so differently to our parents, siblings, friends etc and how we would ever get through the day, never mind the next couple of years.

Pressures that teens experience include peer pressure to try the latest trend and become or remain part of the group, family pressure, to get good grades, choose a career path, help care for younger siblings or older relatives, maybe even contribute in some way to the family income or at least earn their own pocket money.

It's quite a list really isn't it? Is it any wonder that many teens find it difficult to sort out these priorities and live up to all of the different expectations of them?

Of course the majority of teens will rebel fairly quietly, or only within the confines of their own home, so that parents begin to feel as if they are going a little crazy when friends and other family members describe their difficult teen as being helpful, kind and considerate (ie the same as they were at home before the terrible teens hit).

Actually for me this is a good sign as it shows that your teen is confident to question you and test / assert their independence at home without them letting it too greatly affect their sense of who they are and where they fit into the rest of society. To me it can also mean that your teen is happy to live by your rules at core (automatically behaving socially in the company of others)and will hopefully then accept responsibility for any consequences arising from any of their own decisions to act in ways which go against your guidance.

Am I right or wrong? Please feel free to make a comment whether you agree or not. Discussion is learning and I am always open to the views of others.
